 iPod & iTunes Relaunched

Last Tuesday, Apple announced a number of new gadgets and upgrades to its existing software. The iPod nano got an entirely new look with a range of attractive colors to choose from. The new iPod nano is the thinnest iPod ever made. It sports an oval, tapered shape with a black wheel. The 160GB iPod classic has been discontinued. The iPod classic line up will now have a single 120GB model available for US $249.

Apple also announced the new iPod touch with the same 3.5″ display but thinner than its predecessor. It will have a stainless steel back and integrated volume controls on its side. It will also have a built-in speaker like the Apple iPhone and the Nike+iPod system for tracking running statistics. The new iPod touch is rated for 36 hours of music and 6 hours of video and will be available in sizes of 8GB for US $229, 16GB for US $299, and 32GB for US $399.

Other announcements include the launch of iPhone OS 2.1 which runs both the iPhone and iPod touch and the popular media management software, iTunes 8. The OS update should significantly improve the battery life and fix problems with dropped calls and some other bugs. The iTunes 8 software has a “Genius” feature that can generate playlists that promises to provide maximum listening pleasure. A new button in the iTunes 8 interface offers easy access to these new Genius features.
